Eoin White

Eoin is a retired Captain of the Burnaby Fire Department. His many years of experience in first aid and first response training, lends itself well to leading trekking groups to the high reaches of the Himalayas.

Now, after his first trek to Nepal in 2003, Eoin has completed over 40 treks in the Himalayas, 35 to the Everest and Solu-Khumbu region.

His experience with leading groups extends well beyond the mountains. Eoin had the privilege of being the team leader for the Canadian National Wrestling team from 2001-2010. During that time he was charged with the care of up to 30 people over 15 World Championships. He was also the team leader for the Pan American games in 2007 in Rio and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Eoin was also instrumental in the development of the Burnaby, BC. Fire Department's High Angle Technical Rescue program, and he was a certified instructor for more than a dozen years.

As a younger man, Eoin had extensive experience as a mountaineer. He and his wife Colleen have been trekkers and cycle tourists for over 40 years. They continue to travel by boot and bicycle regularly.

Eoin is proud of the 97% success rate for the hundreds of people who have gone with him and his team on Sherpa Encounters treks. He is also proud that over 90 people have returned with him two or more times.

Eoin has a close unique relationship with his "Sherpa families", guides, and tea house operators throughout the region. They have  become his "Sherpa second family". He has been with his “Sherpa son” and lead Sherpa guide, Kami Nurbu Sherpa, for all of the treks. Kami's daughter, Dayangdu, accompanies many treks as a Sherpa helper. She has grown up with "Papa Eoin"  who is very proud of his honorary “Sherpa granddaughter.”

In each trek we typically arrange and provide donations of clothing and supplies for people of the region. Ask about our charitable initiatives.
